Diagnostic tests for cars

November 11th, 2008

Though some of the car models do have an electronic control system which allow storage of sensor data which can be used to diagnose a problem, many cars on the road still do not have this system  inbuilt. Also the electronic control system may not be able to detect a mechanical problem related to suspension.

To diagnose the problems, most garages, alignment, suspension and brake shop will use a  diagnostic machine will carry out the following tests and do many other checks:

  • Fuel pressure
  • Ignition coil output
  • voltage at spark plugs
  • spark plug mis-fire conditions of emissions related systems
  • Amount of electricity needed to start the car
  • battery voltage
  • charging voltage
  • condition of fuel injectors
  • primary and secondary wiring
